When you think of a desert what comes to mind? A place devoid of greenery and human habitation?  Sizzling, trackless landscapes radiating heat like a griddle? Tumbleweeds? Sand dunes?

Although there are many places on Earth like that, not all deserts are made the same. Certainly not the place that’s home to Eisenhower Health. We’re a Magnet®-recognized hospital and one of the coolest places to work if you’re looking to advance your career and enhance your life with the Southern California lifestyle.

Drive yourself into a state of bliss

Far from a lonely desert outpost, Eisenhower is located in Rancho Mirage amid California’s vibrant Coachella Valley.  It’s an island of beauty unto itself. But more important for Eisenhower nursing candidates, it’s also a booming hub that lets you head out and make the most of the west coast, then easily be back—rested and refreshed—for the next day’s shift.

Come to Eisenhower and you’ll not only be working closely with a diverse team of health care professionals. You’ll be closer than you think to some of the most iconic, exciting sights, sounds and experiences this country has to offer.

Outdoor sports, Hollywood, the beach scene, shopping, plus great dining and nightlife.  All are just a one- to two-hour drive away from Eisenhower, often much less.

Get into the great outdoors

Southern Californians gripe about traffic. But we’re actually spoiled. The fact is our freeways are like a big cardio-vascular system that has helped this area thrive for the past half-century and become one of the country’s biggest economies.  The system also allows us to “get there from here” without much effort at all.

Outdoor sports, Hollywood, the beach scene, shopping, plus great dining and nightlife. All are just a one- to two-hour drive away from Eisenhower Health, often much less.

Should you ever tire of local activities like tennis, swimming, yoga, Pilates and world-class golf—all of which are readily available throughout the Coachella Valley, you actually don’t need to drive far to broaden your options.

Just take the Palms Springs Aerial Tramway and within 10 minutes you’ll step out into the San Jacinto Mountains offering some of the best sub-alpine hiking in the state. Or skiers can pile in the car and be carving through fresh powder in no time at nearby Snow Summit or Bear Mountain resorts.

Like to mountain-bike? Whether you want a casual spin or like to ride this side of a face plant, there are many trails right here in the Valley. Plus, you’re not far from the Santa Rosa Mountain and Toro Peak Trail.

Eisenhower Health is also an easy drive away from one of the most impressive landscapes on the planet: Joshua Tree National Park. The hiking and rock climbing there are off the hook. But you don’t even need to get out of your car to appreciate the incredible geology and mural-like desert vistas.

Go Hollywood

Tinseltown. Dream Factory. La-La Land. Whatever you want to call it, there’s an allure to Hollywood that has attracted wanna-be’s and A-listers alike since the early Twenties. For all Eisenhower newbies, Hollywood is one of those must-see destinations. We guarantee you’ll be taking so many pics it will blow up your smartphone.

Jump in the car and within about two hours you can be right in the middle of the magic. Stroll down Hollywood’s Walk of Fame to see your favorite stars emblazoned right on the sidewalk. (Selfie alert: be sure to hit the legendary crossroads of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street.) Catch a movie at iconic Mann’s Theater, which practically invented the red-carpet treatment. See how movies are made at Universal Studios. Or take a legit bus tour of celebrity homes.

And should Hollywood ever become ho-hum (a virtual impossibility), the richness of the whole greater L.A. area is just a freeway onramp away.

Enjoy haute cuisine + hot club action

Okay, so you’ve spent the day soaking up everything L.A. Now you have an appetite for haute cuisine, or maybe a hot time clubbing after dark. BTW, with restaurants like Le Vallauris, Morton’s and Mastro’s, or spots like The Nest and the Copa Room, there’s no shortage of places to go near Eisenhower Health. A quick Uber ride home and you’ll be ready to face your Monday with a smile.

But the L.A. restaurant scene is renowned throughout the world, and offers a dizzying array of choices to suit any palate and pocketbook.  The “L.A. Dinner Drive” is definitely a thing here at Eisenhower.

Shop till you drop

Along with fine dining and a great nightlife, Southern California also has a shopping experience for every whim, budget and stamina level, many close to your new home at Eisenhower. If you have high-end tastes (and a high credit limit) you can shop like a god on fabled Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, or skip the drive and cruise the luxe-lined avenue of El Paseo in nearby Palm Desert.

For the rest of us who know a good deal when we see one, bustling outlets in Cabazon, Westfield Palm Desert or Lake Elsinore are all within an easy car ride of Eisenhower Health.

Kick it on the beach

If kicking it on the sand is more your speed (and you somehow get burnt out on all the Rancho Mirage pool parties), you’re a mere hour and a half away from the picture postcard that is Laguna Beach in Orange County, or Huntington Beach farther up the coast. And if you like surfing, check out the breaks at Trestles in San Clemente, or the beaches of San Onofre or Doheny.

Reminder: when you’re packing your things to come to Eisenhower Health, be sure to throw in a pair of Ray-Bans® and flip-flops.

Come to Eisenhower—for better days on and days off

So, the next time Eisenhower Health comes to mind—and it should be top-of-mind if you’re looking to accelerate your career, don’t think ‘desert.’ Think oasis. A place to revitalize yourself. A rewarding destination on your nursing journey, and a launching point for enjoying everything Southern California has to offer.
