    • The position is responsible for directing the successful development, implementation and growth of the surgical service line, resulting in high quality outcomes, cost effective performance and increases in volume/market share. Serves as an administrative liaison for surgical services activities, projects and programs. Works closely with executive leadership, financial planning and key medical leadership regarding the state of relevant technology, identifying avenues for increased revenue and reimbursement for services and development of referrals. Responsible for planning, organizing, controlling, directing and staffing of department manpower, materials, technology information and financial resources to provide quality service to the physicians/surgeons and care to the patients. Represents the hospital in all department-related activities. Maintains active communication among medical staff, interdepartmental directors, staff and provides mechanisms for ensuring quality care, issue resolution and staff competency.

  • Essential Job Specific Responsibilities
    • Serves as a resource to individuals responsible for coordinating all aspects of the delivery of service within the Surgical Service line
    • Collaborates with medical staff, executive leadership, department directors and managers and staff at all levels to develop goals, objectives, strategy and business plans for continued growth and development of the Surgical Service line
    • Develops appropriate financial reporting mechanisms, analyzes financial and clinical data on a regular basis and reports trends, variances and influences to executive leadership
    • Evaluates and understands the market and competition to attain strategic initiatives and assists marketing and executive leadership in developing a plan for expanding Surgical Service lines volume and services
    • Develops and maintains positive relationships among, staff, community and referring physicians through direct and indirect efforts
    • Communicates regularly with the surgeons, anesthesiologists and staff; provides written reports on activity to key physicians and administration
    • Manages data tools related to the development of the Surgical Service line
    • Develops and expands the referral base to support service line strategic plan
    • Acts as “point” person for all inquiries into new technology adoption in Surgical Services
    • Works with stakeholders to gather financial and clinical information to present to Leadership
    • Researches/evaluates the efficiency of proposed new technology, including reference checks (preferably in CA), published research and technology development trends
    • Reviews reimbursement implication with Business Analytics, reimbursement, and payer contracting to identify current reimbursement conditions and anticipated reimbursement changes, and future contracting strategies in conjunction with Finance Dept
    • Prepares financial analysis considering reimbursement, direct and indirect costs associates with the technology, spin-off business, marketing opportunities, etc.
    • Communicates committee decisions to requestor of new technology, including rationale for the decision. Facilitates appeal to MEC and CEO when appropriate. Provides evaluation of test period results and six-month (post implementation) report
