  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
    • Chief Radiation Therapist is responsible for the planning, coordination and evaluation of the technical staff. Interacts and directs the simulation therapists and radiation therapists and reports back to department manager. The objective is to effectively deliver high-quality radiation therapy and patient care to each patient.

    • Education
      • Required:  Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Program
    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: A.R.R.T. Registered, CA State Certificate (CRT), American Heart Association BLS
    • Experience
      • Required 5-10 years radiation therapy experience
      • Preferred: 10+ years radiation therapy experience
  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Primary responsibilities are to coordinate day to day activities of radiation therapists in an ambulatory setting.
    • Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, safety, quality assessment and improvement.
    • Oversees the work of Radiation Therapist personnel by training, mentoring, allocating, and monitoring their work.
    • Checks prescriptions, diagnoses, charts, and patient identification and ensures time outs are done.
    • Interfaces with manager, physicist, dosimetrist, Radiation Oncologist, and therapists to maintain proper work flow as well as consults with physicians, nurses, and social workers as required.
    • Assists with daily treatments as schedule warrants.
    • Ensures that all new start treatment plan QA is done at least one day prior to start.
    • Performs and assists in patient simulation as needed.
    • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational opportunities, and staff meetings, as needed.
    • Demonstrates keen interpersonal skills in order to effectively and positively interact and communicate with patients, their families, physicians, Department of Radiation Oncology staff and all other departments and staff.
    • Maintains supplies and inventory of the department.
    • Demonstrates a high level of knowledge and understanding of components of the oncology services including clinical skills, issues, and current trends affecting oncology services.
    • Demonstrates well developed administrative and Chief Therapist skills as needed for the radiation Oncology Department.
    • Reviews patient satisfaction surveys with manager as needed.
    • Participates in Quality Assessment and Improvement Program as needed.
    • Contributes to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers by correcting existing hazards, informing department manager of discovered hazards, and preventing hazards by following established procedures.
    • Ensures weekly chart checks are completed timely.
    • Reviews all department billing as it pertains to patient simulations and treatments, ensuring therapists.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
