  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
    • Performs, verifies and reports laboratory tests.  Supervises and verifies work of non-licensed personnel.  Performs Lab Assistant and Lab Technical Aide responsibilities as required.  Provides appropriate education for staff and students.

  • Qualifications
    • Education
      • Required: CA approved equivalency of CLS
      • Preferred: BS and 12 month internship at school of med technology
    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: CA state CLS license
    • Experience
      • One or more years working in a hospital laboratory
  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Performs and verifies laboratory section testing in accordance with established procedures within acceptable turnaround time
    • Produces accurate clinical laboratory test results
    • Assists in ordering, maintaining, and restocking of supplies
    • Answers telephone and responds to questions or directs call to appropriate individual
    • Utilizes Laboratory Information System as appropriate
    • Disinfects and maintains work areas as needed
    • Performs proficiency testing as assigned
    • Complies with hospital and Laboratory safety policies and procedures
    • Supervises and verifies non-licensed personnel’s work
    • Performs or verifies quality control, calibration of instruments, and validation of instruments and/or procedures
    • Performs instrument maintenance
    • Monitors daily safety checks and temp logs
    • Disinfects and maintains orderly/organized work environment
    • Performs other duties as necessary
    • Performs ABO and Rh typing, antibody screening, and crossmatching, and enters results accurately into computer
    • Performs routine antibody identification, and antigen screening as necessary
    • Performs emergency blood release when required
    • Performs antibody elutions and adsorptions, as indicated.
    • Irradiates blood when required. Modifies component in computer and verifies label before issue.
    • Works-up suspected transfusion reactions and enters appropriate orders and results into computer.
