Essential Responsibilities
-
Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
-
Demonstrates proper receiving, sorting, and inspection of instrumentation in the decontamination work area following standard precautions.
-
Identifies and separates instrumentation needing manual decontamination from those that are safe for automatic decontamination.
-
Follows manufacturer’s recommendations on dilution of all chemicals used throughout the department.
-
Properly operates and maintains technically advanced decontamination equipment.
-
Inspects instrumentation for contamination and ensures instruments and equipment are in good working order prior to assembly.

Demonstrates knowledge of proper disassembly and assembly of instrumentation.

Follows instrument tray inventory control sheets when assembling tray sets.
-
Identifies, selects, and demonstrates proper usage of sterilization packaging and quality control indicators for each.
-
Operates and demonstrates knowledge of specific parameters for each of the sterilizers.
-
Selects, performs, interprets and documents diagnostic and biological tests on all types of sterilization equipment.
-
Maintains proper sterile storage of supplies and instrumentation.
-
Assembles surgical and specialty carts according to the transportation slips or inventory check lists.

Inspects, restocks and maintains adult and pediatric crash carts and intubation boxes.
-
Possesses knowledge and adheres to aseptic practices.
-
Demonstrates good judgment when using supplies to achieve cost effectiveness.
-
Assists the Coordinator and/or the MSC with keeping proper par levels of supplies.
-
Contributes to maximum efficiency to complete the priorities set per the surgery schedule.
-
Maintains current knowledge relating to new instruments, equipment, and changes through participation in shift report.
