  • Job Description: A brief statement of the position, including the general job duties.
    • Under the direction of the Administrative Director, is responsible and accountable for the fiscal, clinical and personnel functions of individual department(s) on a 24-hour basis. Develops and utilizes mechanisms for directing, evaluating and controlling operational activities towards accomplishment of divisional effectiveness and efficiency. Responsible and accountable for developing, implementing, and integrating performance improvement plan into unit practice. Assures implementation and maintenance of departmental/hospital Policies, Procedures and Standards of Care. Assures all State and Federal laws are in compliance in areas of responsibility. Assures all JCAHO standards are followed in areas of responsibility.

    • Education
      • Required: BSN 
      • Preferred – Master’s Degree
    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: California RN license; American Heart Association BLS and ACLS.
      • Preferred – CNOR – NEA-BC
    • Experience
      • Required: 5 years clinical experience
      • Required: 3-5 years management experience
      • Preferred – 7 years management experience

  • Essential Job Specific Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Implements operational changes to satisfy regulatory (local, state, national) requirements and maintains area of responsibility in a state of continual readiness for Joint Commission and DHS surveys.
    • Creates a work environment which allows participation in order to promote retention, productivity, diversity, employee safety and equality.
    • Plans and conducts regular meetings discussing issues and performance improvement in his/her area(s) of responsibility with recording of meeting minutes and follow-up.
    • Prepares annual budget for area(s) of responsibility and controls operational activities towards accomplishment of divisional efficiency.
    • Adopts a total performance improvement approach to work that includes employee empowerment, managing with data, a philosophy of continuous improvement, a customer orientated attitude and a work methodology that minimizes error. This includes developing and maintaining quality-monitoring systems in are(s) of responsibility.
    • Reports performance improvement results and addresses any problems or issues accurately and timely.
    • Organizes and plans all activities in an effective manner. This includes organizing and delegating work in an effective manner, establishing appropriate time frames for completion of work and providing necessary leadership to ensure effective work results.
    • Develops and maintains open, honest and mutually beneficial relationships with the members of hospital leadership team, medical staff, and other hospital employees. Relationship will be maintained in a manner consistent with Eisenhower Medical Center’s mission values and codes of conduct consistent with Performance Excellence.
    • Promotes continued self-development and development of staff through attendance at hospital in-service/lectures, professional seminars, conferences, professional associations, and other means.
    • Develops and maintains open lines of communication between the team members. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for developing communication tools to keep customers informed of changes, developments, services, policies and results of areas of responsibility.
    • Monitors daily schedule for timely flow, on time starts and reduced wait times/turnaround times.
    • Communicates closely with surgeons keeping them informed of scheduling issues, any scheduling delays and patient care issues.
    • Ensures National Patient Safety Goals are adhered to and works closely with clinical staff in compliance among all staff and physicians.
    • Accountable for the 24-hour management of clinical nursing practices and staffing. Monitors quality of care given in all areas.
    • Facilitates staff orientation and development for the department. Initiates educational opportunities and ensures staff compliance and educational and licensure/certification requirements.
