    • Directs functions related to the Medical Staff organization and the Medical Staff Services Department. Responsible for working with medical staff leadership in planning, developing and maintaining the support structure necessary for the Medical Staff to carry out its duties and responsibilities pursuant to the Medical Staff Bylaws, regulatory requirements and hospital policy. EMH management and Medical Staff members rely upon this individual’s comprehensive expertise and knowledge in Medical Staff-related issues.

    • Education

    • Experience
      • Required: Minimum three years in a management position directly related to medical staff services.
  • Specific Skills, Knowledge, Abilities Required
    • Thorough working knowledge of principles and practices related to the exercise of supervisory and administrative responsibilities of Medical Staff Services, or directly related field.
    • Thorough knowledge and expertise in medico-legal issues and laws/standards regarding Medical Staff-related matters, and regulatory requirements, including JCAHO and California law.
    • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Extensive knowledge of medical staff-related databases and electronic management of credentialing data/information. Computer capable and proficient in use of Microsoft Office software.
    • Leadership skills to direct others toward objectives that contribute to the success of the Department and the organization. Analytical ability to identify opportunities for improvement and problem resolution.
  • Essential Job Specific Responsibilities
    • Practices hospital-wide scripts and ensures scripting is being utilized in areas of responsibility.
    • Directs the Medical Staff functions required to meet the requirements of the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, Hospital policy, and requirements of all regulatory agencies.
    • Directs the credentialing process for the Medical Staff and Allied Health Professionals.
    • Directs Medical Staff compliance as it relates to accreditation and licensing.
    • Serves as the custodian of records for the Medical Staff and maintains confidentiality and integrity of same.
    • Orients and guides Medical Staff officers, department chairs and other Medical Staff leaders in the development and maintenance of processes to assess the competence of individuals granted clinical privileges.
    • Establishes a process to assure compliance with regulatory requirements for On-going Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPE)
    • Analyzes and formulates Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and policy to achieve compliance with all regulatory requirements and to reflect the community standard of practice. Monitors Medical Staff compliance with same.
