  • Job Description: A brief statement of the position, including the general job duties.
    • The position is responsible and accountable for the fiscal, clinical and personnel functions of individual department(s) on a 24-hour basis. Develops and utilizes mechanisms for directing, evaluating and controlling operational activities towards accomplishment of divisional effectiveness and efficiency. Responsible and accountable for developing, implementing, and integrating performance improvement plan into unit practice. Assures implementation and maintenance of departmental/hospital Policies, Procedures and Standards of Care. Assures all State and Federal laws are in compliance in areas of responsibility. Assures all Joint Commission standards are followed in areas of responsibility.

  • Qualifications
    • Education
      • Required: BSN
      • Preferred: MSN
    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: California RN License and American Heart Association BLS
    • Experience
      • Required: 5 years clinical experience.
      • Preferred: 2 years management experience.
  • Specific Skills, Knowledge, Abilities Required
    • Ensures the delivery of quality patient care through the nursing process.
    • Applies management theory and leadership styles as appropriate to situation.
    • Controls expenditures to within division-wide budgeted amounts.
    • Facilitates teamwork and effective flow of ideas in assigned area(s).
    • Provides for professional growth and development of staff.
    • Implements, integrates and maintains Performance Improvement Program within assigned area(s).
  • Essential Job Specific Responsibilities
    • Provides for planned change through a structured process that includes appropriate stakeholders and staff members.
    • Develops annual budgets for assigned departments. Implements systems to monitor budgetary and productivity goals.
    • Supervises staff to maintain compliance with state, federal, and other regulatory agencies. Implements systems to insure maintenance of regulatory requirements.
    • Motivates, stimulates and influence staff, and encourages subordinates for the achievement of organizational goals.
    • Leads and guides subordinates through planned and unplanned change processes.
    • Uses appropriate communication to inform and educate subordinates, peers, and management as bidirectional organizational needs occur.
    • Implements retention strategy to retain excellent staff members.
    • Implements strategies to achieve and maintain culture of caring, including GIVES, hourly rounding, and daily leadership rounding for all patients on super units.
    • Develops mechanisms to act on patient feedback and concerns utilizing appropriate organizational policies.
    • Develops an environment that is responsive to patient and family needs.
    • Implements systems to assure that services are rendered effectively and efficiently, utilizing evidence-based nursing protocols, policies, and procedures.
    • Coordinates and integrates services to facilitate interprofessional collaboration and mutual respect.
    • Implements strategies for performance improvement; monitors progress in attaining goals.
    • Promotes and implements unit-based shared decision-making councils.
    • Maintains a structure for continuing education, in-service education, and competency evaluation for all staff members.
    • Completes assigned projects satisfactorily.
