  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
    • Performs echocardiography studies on all patient populations served in the in-patient and out-patient Cardiology units. Performs transesophageal, stress echocardiography as ordered. May be cross trained in EKG performance and record keeping.

  • Qualifications
    • Education
      • Required: Graduation from an accredited educational program in American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) program or Associate’s degree or higher in echocardiography/cardiovascular sonography if hired after March 1, 2023.

    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: Successful completion of Echocardiography Registry Exam with RDCS, RCS or RVT certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within one year of employment, if hired after March 1, 2023; American Heart Association BLS.

    • Experience
      • Preferred: Experience in cardiovascular ultrasound setting and advanced structural heart procedures.

  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Must be willing and able to provide studies in both the in-patient and out-patient Cardiology units, as needed.
    • Must be willing and able to schedule for "on-call" duty, as needed.
    • Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures to include taking vital signs and measurements, positioning patients and explaining procedures; review medical history of patients.
    • Coordinates with pacer techs in obtaining AV Optimization results.
    • Performs a thorough echocardiography studies (2-D, M-Mode, Color Flow and Spectral Doppler, Transesophageal, Stress Echo applying use of Definity and Bubble Study ) on all patient population served with high technical quality timely and accurately according to policy and procedure.
    • Minimize the number or re-examinations.
    • Confirms presence or absence of skin allergies from patients.
    • Analyzes, organizes data and performs appropriate calculation timely and accurately.
    • Gathers pertinent medical information form the patient record and/or interview.
    • Compiles preliminary interpretations, presents results to physicians timely and accurately for physician interpretation.
    • Documents and processes procedures timely and accurately after imaging according to policy and procedure to minimize delay to reading physician.
    • Ensures patients are comfortable and assists patients as needed.
    • Assists the department during downtime by answering phones, photocopying records, faxing, and distributing correspondence.
    • Assists physicians and with transport of patients willingly and without being prompted.
    • Participates in activities, which results in professional and department growth.
    • Able to appropriately prepare the patient’s room and equipment for the echocardiography study.
    • Maintains a clean work area.
    • Process billing charges or credits by the end of the shift according to policy and procedure.
    • Demonstrates the care and operation of equipment used in the Cardiology Department according to technical specifications and application of equipment.
    • Maintains clean, well-stocked equipment with supplies and “in good working order “ after each shift.
    • Participates in department’s performance improvement and quality assessment programs.
    • Reports any unsafe or mal-functioning equipment to the appropriate personnel and takes the necessary step in processing reported equipment.
    • Complies with policies; uses discretion and follows through with areas of concern.
    • Adheres to hospital infection control guidelines, body mechanics and safety, equipment usage and care.
    • Performs other duties as requested.
