    • Education
      • Required: Graduate of an Accredited School of Psychiatric Technicians in California or Graduate of an Accredited School of Licensed Vocational Nursing in California
    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: California LPT or LVN Licensure, Workplace Violence and Response Training Class, American Heart Association BLS
    • Experience
      • Required: 1 year experience in a hospital setting required. Ability to work with patients with psychiatric diagnosis, comorbid medical disorders and conduct accurate needs assessment.
      • Preferred: 1 year psychiatric nursing experience
  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Participates in the admission process for all patients; ensures accurate and complete documentation of data in the medical record.
    • Maximizes free time between patients and other duties to assist with cleaning and organizing workstation, cleaning rooms, filing.
    • Uses and practices basic assessment (data collection), participates in planning, executes interventions.
    • Completes routine documentation within the prescribed time frames and efficiently documents all pertinent and meaningful observations; notes physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Participates as multidisciplinary team member to address, implement and document the individualized treatment needs of the patient.
    • Participates in discharge/aftercare planning by working with the multidisciplinary team identify and meet patient and/or family discharge/aftercare planning needs as documented in the multidisciplinary treatment plan.
    • Participates in patient teaching by collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to identify and meet patient and/or family educational needs; evaluates the patient’s/family’s response to care and teaching; revises the nursing plan of care as needed; evaluates patient’s progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members; evaluates patient’s response and the effectiveness of patient teaching.
    • Evaluates the patient’s progress regularly and revises the plan of care as indicated.
    • Documents the patient’s response to treatment provided in the medical record.
    • Administers medications safely by following established policies and procedures, standards of care and regulatory agency requirements.
    • Prioritizes decisions concerning patient care to ensure safety and to meet the multi-level needs for a group of patients as well as the individual patient.
    • Coordinates breaks and lunch periods for team members so as not to compromise patient flow.
    • Demonstrates familiarity with impending signs of physical distress, agitation, assaultive behavior, and potential for self-harm, and adverse reactions to medications.
    • Observes and reports changes in the patient’s moods, thoughts, behaviors, relationships, and responses to planned treatment interventions as well as changes in physical condition.
    • Utilizes therapeutic communication skills including offering support, encouragement, positive reinforcement, clarification, reality orientation, de-escalation, redirection , teaching and problem solving
    • Establishes and maintains effective communications and working relationships with physicians, co-workers, patients, patients’ families, visitors and the public.
    • Complies with departmental plan to meet budget goals
    • Completes age specific competency annually.
    • May provide support to Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Treatment once obtains Certificate of Training with Eisenhower Behavioral Health Competence process.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
