The position is responsible for ensuring the accurate documentation of patient care activity, responding timely to patient requests, maintaining a quality standard of care, anticipating daily workload, prioritizing activities and coordinating the workload of other employees at the Center including administration of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by and under the direction of the Hyperbaric Physician in addition to wound care treatment and safety oversight for the clinic

Essential Responsibilities
-
Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
-
Performs within the scope of practice for the professional license held.
-
Assists physicians, so that appropriate data collection and preparation, examination and diagnostic testing occur without error and without delay.
-
Prepares, educates and orients patients to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy; this includes lifting or transferring patients, positioning patients, getting them ready for treatment administration and answering their questions.

Is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems, as well as for the safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to the hyperbaric patient.

Administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed by the Wound Care Physician to the patient. This includes monitoring and controlling the performance of the hyperbaric chamber and making appropriate adjustments as necessary based on patient response.

Maintains complete and accurate patient records as they pertain to treatment documentation. Utilizes data software for wound management by documenting appropriate entries for daily hyperbaric treatments and wound care clinic visits including photo uploading.

Supports clinical hyperbaric facility accreditation.
-
Participates in initial and ongoing education and training for hyperbaric competency; and in safety programs and activities such as leading and assisting in hyperbaric safety drills. Maintains competencies, continuing education and certifications as appropriate.

Responsible for maintaining all facility safety-related standards as required by various licensing and regulatory agencies.

Participates in quarterly hyperbaric chamber safety drills, including those for fire, which are tailored to improve staff response to emergency situations.

Reviews safety related events with Medical Director and staff during meetings to facilitate learning.

Supports Department Safety Coordinator by making recommendations for departmental safety policies to incorporate new safety procedures as appropriate.

Ensures department compliance with NFPA 99, hospital and unit safety policies and procedures.
-
Fosters positive relationships between the department and local Fire Marshall, local EMS Director, and Pressure Vessel Inspector, as appropriate for a given location.

Works closely with Program Director, RN Clinical Practice Manager and Safety Director to coordinate and approve all hyperbaric chamber upgrades, modifications, and repairs to the hyperbaric system, including interactions with hospital maintenance personnel and outside contractors, to ensure that all maintenance activities are done in accordance with appropriate safety standards. Ensures that the testing of all modifications is performed before manned pressurizations.

Evaluates hyperbaric chamber equipment/supplies used in the chamber and ensures that they meet all safety requirements before they are permitted inside the chamber.

Maintains a safe environment in the hyperbaric facility for patients and staff and uses approved and recognized decompression procedures for all persons with a hyperbaric exposure to inert gases.

Orders and communicates supply needs to supervisor so that appropriately stocked work areas are maintained.

Answers telephone in a polite efficient manner; takes clear and accurate messages, transfers calls.

Provides timely and appropriate discharge instructions to patients.
-
Demonstrates cost effectiveness by using judgment when opening and using supplies.
-
Maximizes free time between patients and other duties to assist with cleaning and organizing workstation, cleaning rooms, and filing.

Performs patient callbacks with information about test results or for quality customer service.

Coordinates breaks and lunch periods for team members so as not to compromise patient flow.
