  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
    • Oversees operation of the hospital Central Utility Plant and other major utility systems within campus buildings.

  • Qualifications
    • Education
      • Required: BS in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering 
    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: 500 hp or higher steam engineers license must be acquired within one year of employment
    • Experience
      • Required: 8 years of experience in maintenance operations
      • Preferred: 1 year experience as a supervisor or manager
  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Displays working knowledge of the repair and maintenance of pumps, air handlers and motors.
    • Manages the activities of all stationary engineers and maintenance mechanics at the Central Plant.
    • Provides appropriate, fair and uniform administration of all policies and procedures including evaluations, counseling, disciplinary actions and terminations.
    • Works close with management staff, vendors, and other members of the hospital staff and ensures the completion of assigned project within agreed upon times estimates.
    • Prepares timely reports on PM completion and staff productivity.
    • Assures that PM’s inspections, repairs and calibrations are performed per manufacturer'’ guidelines and on time.
    • Demonstrates responsibility for the containment of hospital costs through reviewing all requests for alternate cost saving measures.
    • Communicates with the end user and Director when undue delays / conflicts occur in performing repair work.
    • Creates staff work schedules to cover necessary shifts and accommodate PTO requests.
    • Monitors maintenance activities for Cogeneration Engines, Boilers, Chillers, Cooling Towers and other rotating equipment within the plant.
    • Trains staff on the operation and maintenance of equipment to provide 100% uptime on all life support utilities.
    • Works with vendors to meet SCAQMD emissions standards, Riverside County water standards and requirements of other applicable agencies.
    • Oversees and performs the preventive/ corrective maintenance and day to day operation of the facility in accordance with all JCAHO, OSHA, SCAQMD, Department of Health, Fire Marshal and all regulatory agency requirements.
    • Oversees all Plant Operation technician activities and in coordination with the Director provides the hiring, coaching and disciplinary duties.
    • Takes 1-2 weekends of on-call responsibilities per month.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
