  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
    • This position is responsible for the multidisciplinary coordination of care of the trauma patient. This role collaborates with medical staff, leadership, and nursing to facilitate optimal patient care through education activities, quality assurance, clinical activities, research and administrative duties.

  • Qualifications
    • Education
      • Required: BSN
      • Preferred: MSN
    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: California RN license; American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, PALS
      • Preferred: MICN, Certification specific to trauma (TNCC, TCRN, PHTLS, or an appropriate trauma-based equivalent), Trauma Registrar Certification (CSTR or CAISS certified or within 2 years of hire)
    • Experience
      • Required: 5+ years RN experience in emergency, trauma or critical care
      • Preferred: 3+ years of management experience; previous trauma program management
  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations
    • Clinical Activities include:
      • Provides clinical management support and acts a liaison to administration and clinical staff for trauma program
      • Participates in rounds on trauma patients with care team
      • Facilitates multidisciplinary rounds
      • Provides feedback to staff on a regular basis
      • Provides orientation to new staff in the care of trauma patients
    • Quality Assurance: 
      • Coordinates daily clinical process and performance improvement
      • Performs reviews on trauma patient charts
      • Maintains and supervises trauma registry as required according to local, states and national standards. Verifies accuracy of all data collected
      • Ensures confidentiality with patient and provider information. Demonstrates understanding of HIPAA
      • Develops processes for data collection
      • Analyzes trauma data to provide routine and ad hoc reports of trauma statistics and performance improvement meetings and trauma operational meetings; routine volume reporting, statistics, trends, loop closure evaluations and opportunities for improvement, education, financial analysis, trauma committees and external oversight
    • Education: 
      • Coordinates and collaborates on educational activities to meet the needs of the trauma program
      • Coordinates multidisciplinary trauma review meetings
      • Coordinates trauma review with clinical staff
      • Participates in orientation, in-services, and mentor programs for nursing, medical staff and multidisciplinary staff
      • Reviews and updates organizations trauma guidelines with the Medical Director
    • Administration:
      • Represents organization in community activities at the county and state level functions including local EMS meetings
      • Attends trauma related meetings
      • Management and mentoring of staff within the trauma service
      • Assisting the Emergency Services Director drafting trauma related policies. Implementing policies and assuring compliance and sustainability
      • Participates in organizational committees and process improvement plans
    • Other duties as assigned
