  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
    • The Interprofessional Simulation Education Program Manager will work closely with content experts, leaders, and educate staff to develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate simulation-based education and events for the In-Situ Clinical Simulation Program (CSP). The Interprofessional Simulation Education Program Manager will also serve as simulator operator by programming, testing and running scenarios with and assure that equipment is set up for teaching sessions.

    • Education
      • Required: MSN
      • Preferred: Doctoral degree in Education
    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: California RN License; American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, PALS
      • Required: Obtain and maintain CHSE (Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator) and CHSOS (Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist) certification and competency as required by Society for Simulation in Healthcare and INACSL (International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning)
      • Required: Instructor or eligibility to obtain BLS Instructor certification within 90 days of hire
    • Experience
      • Required: Minimum 3-5 years Simulation Coordination experience and nursing
      • Required: Work experience minimum 2-3 years working in a related role or field
      • Required: Work experience minimum 5-8 years of acute clinical care
      • Required: Clinical Educator experience
      • Required: Experience in patient simulation services, technologies and applications
  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations
    • Utilizes nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and outcomes identification within Simulation activities).
    • Oversees and coordinates Nursing Education through Simulation:
      • Coordinates orientation program for new hires and transfers within the nursing division.
      • Develops/coordinates education plans associated with competency validation.
      • Develops/coordinates education to address populations served on assigned units.
      • Develops/coordinates education to facilitate the development of the bedside nurse leader
      • Assesses, plans, implements and maintains materials for educational programs and makes changes as needed to keep material accurate, relevant and current for target audience.
      • Evaluates effectiveness of educational programs.
      • Incorporates the principles of adult learning in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of educational programs.
      • Teaches effectively and uses dynamic and unique approaches to engage target audience.
      • Coordinates and provides courses and classes that promote staff development and competence.
      • Utilizes feedback from physicians, directors, nursing staff and other disciplines to develop education plans for areas assigned.
      • Identifies and recruits resources (both internal and external) for educational offerings.
      • Ensures educational programs are in alignment with the mission, values and goals of EMC
    • Acts as educational consultant using Simulation:
      • Participates in the development of education for regulatory requirements and the management of critical events.
      • Responds to needs across medical center to promote quality patient care and safety.
      • Collaborates with medical staff and other disciplines on programs to facilitate excellence in patient care utilizing the Relationship-Based Care Model.
      • Consults with staff to promote professional development with career pathway or as requested by staff/leadership
    • Conducts Nursing Research:
      • Supports the integration of research into nursing practice.
      • Incorporates, interprets and communicates research findings into program plans.
    • Responds to changes in nursing practice and develops programs to support them.
    • Promotes activities that encourage staff professional development
    • Integrates ethical principles as defined by the ANA Code of Ethics in all aspects of practice.
    • Assists with recruitment and retention of nursing staff. Facilitates programs based on hospital needs in relation to recruitment.
    • Engages in development of and support for budget goals.
    • Provides information, interpretation and guidance to nurses regarding Informatics through Simulation activities.
    • Work collaboratively with the leadership team, staff, and other clients and stakeholders to develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate simulation-based education and events, learning objectives, case scenarios, program planning, evaluation tools and other needs of clinical departments and groups utilizing the In-Situ Clinical Simulation Program.
    • Plan and participate in event and scenario planning meetings to provide curriculum and learning objective expertise consistent with capabilities and limitations of In-Situ Clinical Simulation Program staff, equipment and facilities to meet the needs of the organization.
    • Collaborate with leadership team, staff, other clients, and stakeholders to achieve consistent, integrated application of simulation-based education and events, research and other activities with the mission, strategic priorities and objectives of Eisenhower Health including (and not limited to) excellent patient care, enhanced safety, and improved outcome metrics across the system.
    • Work collaboratively with leadership team and staff to conduct new hire orientation using principles of simulation, educational techniques, debrief, and other activities as appropriate. Instruct others (educators) on technical aspects of operating simulators and equipment.
    • Develop and lead staff development activities including courses, individual instruction, print and online resources as appropriate for advanced simulation techniques. Maintain documentation of completion of orientation and staff development activities.

    • Execution of simulation(s) and evaluation activities are met.
    • Ensure appropriate fidelity and realism of simulation events including moulage, equipment, supplies, rooms & furniture to meet simulation-based learning objectives and facilitators’ needs.
    • Ensure preauthorization for use of curriculum, equipment and facility.
    • Assure educational programs are in compliance with standards set forth by the appropriate accrediting bodies.
    • Assist with or set-up simulation scenarios and equipment.
    • Participate in running simulation events and scenarios as appropriate.
    • Engage in available opportunities to learn about current developments and best practices in simulation, share information and best practices externally (e.g. publications, as presenter or panelist at industry conferences and events), develop and maintain relationships with simulation specialists to engage in Collaborative problem solving and innovation.
    • Develop technical proficiency with basic aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, repair and replacement needs for all simulation equipment.
    • Plan and participate in preventative maintenance of equipment according to manufacturers’ recommendations and scheduled maintenance to ensure that equipment is operational.
    • Initiate and develop collaborative relationships with other organizations and institutions. Communicate in a positive, professional manner with the staff and clients of the In-Situ Simulation Program.
