  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
    • The Senior Decision Support analyst is responsible for the development of the patient-level financial and clinical data and analysis to inform the medical center or health system's operational, financial and strategic decision making
    • The position plays a critical role in maintaining Eisenhower’s decision support system – Strata – to ensure production of high quality, accurate and timely patient-level financial and clinical data for our Finance, and Operational business partners. Strata is the single source of critical patient financial data that allows Service Line Vice Presidents and Directors to prepare ROI analysis for capital and value improvements projects, develop case base budgets, and provide program and service line profitability reporting
    • The position supports the planning process through the development of a case-based operating budget for patient volume and gross revenue. Manages the service line profitability reporting for specific service lines, cost accounting system, and other service line reporting. Provides for the measurement and benchmarking of business operations in relation to best business practices for the healthcare industry and internal business objectives
    • This position works with cost center managers on monthly expense variance and labor productivity reporting

    • Education
      • Required: B.S. degree in Finance, Accounting or a directly related field

    • Experience
      • 5 plus years as a decision support analyst in acute care hospital environment
      • Experience with hospital cost accounting concepts and systems, and familiarity/understanding of hospital and professional patient billing data including healthcare reimbursement concepts
      • Experience developing and implementing reporting solutions and tools that facilitate volume, profitability and utilization analysis of patient populations. (e.g. SQL Analysis Services, Power BI)
      • Knowledge of and experience working with Healthcare specific EMR, Decision Support, and Financial accounting software – Strata preferred
  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Monitors the data integrity of certain service line profitability reporting, the cost accounting system, and the decision support system.
    • Assists in maintaining the critical Strata Cost Accounting functions including the monthly processes for General Ledger, Payroll, Cost Accounting. Assists in ensuring financial reconciliations for all business areas are complete, provider updates are completed, and any data anomalies are corrected.
    • Supports the timely publication and accuracy of the monthly service line financial statements to senior leadership in support of potential future investments and expansion.
    • Develops and prepares revenue/expense projections based on patient utilization, payor mix, cost, clinical staff productivity, ancillary service requirements, and other health care financial factors for assigned service lines.
    • Prepares various analytics, feasibility studies, ROIs, and leadership reports as needed.
    • Works with financial and clinical staff and physicians as needed on projects and reports as assigned.
    • Develop a plan to continuously enhance the cost accounting system.
    • Actively engages in ongoing and special one-time projects to improve the quality, accuracy and value to Eisenhower Health of Decision support deliverables. This may include: optimization of reporting tools, development of new financial metrics, streamling standard processes, and refinement and improvement financial data. This will include development and execution of functional specifications, and documentation and communication of new processes or data, and in training others in the use of new tools and/or processes.
    • Works closely with Quality and Utilization Management staff and Leadership to build reports and provide analysis involving clinical outcome, quality improvement utilization, and physician reporting and analytics.
    • Supports the monthly review with managers of cost center variances and labor productivity.
    • Develops/recommends improved methods of monitoring and reporting operation and/or quality performance data.
    • Supports the annual budget process with volume projections and other areas as necessary.
