Job Objective:

Assists with implementing strategic, performance improvement and budgetary goals while working with physicians, patients, and staff to maintain the high quality care Respiratory Care, Pulmonary and Bronchoscopy is recognized for. Performs diagnostic pulmonary function testing and provides coverage for other clinical supervisors.

Job Description:

Education:

Required: Graduate from an associate degree Respiratory Therapy training program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Allied Health Professions (CAAHEP) in collaboration with the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)
Preferred: Bachelor degree in Respiratory Therapy, Management, or related field

Licensure/Certification:

Required: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license from the Respiratory Care Board of California (RCBC); Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC); Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) credential from NBRC within one (1) year of hire; American Heart Association BLS and ACLS

Experience:

Required: Three (3) years of acute care hospital respiratory care experience and one (1) year of experience in a pulmonary function or bronchoscopy lab

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
  • Promotes and provides a safe and effective Respiratory Care to patients, and ensures same from employees supervised.
  • Performs patient assessment and develops an appropriate plan of care according to hospital policy and protocols, and ensures same from employees supervised.
  • Operates respiratory therapy, pulmonary and bronchoscopy equipment according to technical specifications and application of equipment, and ensures same from employees supervised.
  • Performs respiratory care, pulmonary and bronchoscopy procedures as appropriate for clinical patient and critical care areas according to hospital policy or protocols, and ensures same from employees supervised.
  • Performs charting and documentation that is consistently complete, accurate, legible and informative, and ensures same from employees supervised.
  • Provides teaching and educational material to the patient and/or significant others concerning respiratory therapy.
  • Responds to emergency situations and provides appropriate and timely treatments, and ensures same from employees supervised.
  • Provides specialized care (e.g., trans-tracheal oxygenation).
  • Participates in Performance Improvement and Quality Assessment activities, and interdisciplinary teams as appropriate.
  • Participates in the department’s Performance Improvement program by collecting raw data, analyzing it with leadership, generating reports, and applying conclusions to departmental operations and clinical practice to assure that Eisenhower Health’s level of practice is on par with facilities used/viewed as benchmarks.
  • Participates in activities resulting in professional and departmental growth; attends continuing education programs to promote professional growth and maintains licensure in a timely manner.
  • Assists leadership with personnel issues for assigned shift (e.g., work schedule, staffing, counseling, performance evaluations); oversees day-to-day operations of the department, as needed.
  • Collaborates with leadership to assure compliance with departmental, facility, local, state, federal, and accreditation standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Participates in paper and onsite inspections.
  • Precepts for all aspects of respiratory care (e.g., new employee, students, other health care team members, special/new procedures).
  • Collaborates with leadership to evaluate equipment and supplies being considered for purchase.
  • Collaborates with leadership to evaluate service operations; collects, analyzes, interprets, and verifies statistical data; generates reports; and uses this cycle to design, develop, implement, and maintain an effective and efficient Respiratory Care service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
  • Ability to delegate tasks effectively, optimize team productivity and ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives
  • Ability to maintain and operate equipment used in the Pulmonary Function Laboratory and Bronchoscopy Suite
  • Self-starter; driven to take action without needing prompting
  • Proficient in the principles of pulmonary function testing and respiratory therapy
  • Willingness to adapt roles and responsibilities as needed for the benefit of the team's objectives and overall success
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and unexpected situations
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Ability to identify basic EKG rhythms/arrhythmias
  • Ability to demonstrate significant problem solving skills with respiratory modalities in the clinical setting
