Move.

Like a one-word mantra, “move” is perhaps the single most-used word in a physical therapist’s lexicon. After all, in your PT job, it’s what you encourage your patients to do — move their bodies to improve function or manage pain.

As a PT, you probably take your own advice and move your muscles, too. A study of the personal exercise habits of PTs found people in the profession exceeded the physical activity guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American College of Sports Medicine. The studied explained that PTs get their bodies moving with exercise more than the general population and other healthcare professionals.

That’s good news for your patients. Research also shows that PTs who take the time to participate in such activities as aerobic exercise or strength training spend more time counseling patients on those activities.

When it comes to physical well being, PTs clearly have this “move” thing mastered; but what about the well being of their careers? Have you considered “move” in another context, as in how to move your career forward or whether you should move to another job location?

Eisenhower Medical Center and our outpatient clinics are located in beautiful Rancho Mirage, Calif., near Palm Springs, and offer PTs opportunities to enjoy an exceptional career while living an exceptional life. We like to say it’s unique out here in the Palm Springs area because few other employers or locations provide such fulfilling double benefits. Live

You work hard and, like most people, you probably live for vacation. In the Palm Springs area, you can live like you’re on one.

Long a destination area, Palm Springs and nearby Rancho Mirage boast a world-class reputation for vacation-style living. The famed Rat Pack indulged here, and remnants of the glitzy escape for Hollywood’s elite can be found among the cities’ celebrated resorts and tucked-away neighborhoods. All that glam — the cooler-than-cool clubs, luxury shopping, and celebrity sightings — are still here; but much of the Sinatra swank has given way to a relaxed, natural vibe that prizes a healthy work-life balance.

The culture here also treasures the unique. Surrounded by spectacular mountain and desert scenery and just a two-hour drive from Los Angeles or San Diego, Palm Springs is part of the popular Coachella Valley and its collection of eight other cities. Each community has its own vibe, from serene to spirited and artsy to active; but all share in valuing open-mindedness and diversity. Retirees, singles, working families, and the LGBTQ community all make their happy home in the Valley.

Speaking of homes, plenty of people think “expensive” when they consider living in California; but the Palm Springs area is surprisingly affordable. Housing prices in the Coachella Valley have remained reasonable by California standards, and the cost of living is lower than the state average. You’ll also save on commuting expenses — long and clogged commutes typically don’t happen here.

Work

Where you live matters to your satisfaction in life, but so does where you work. It’s a double win when you find a work culture that suits you as much as your surroundings.

The only not-for-profit teaching facility in the Palm Springs area, Eisenhower Medical Center has established an award-winning reputation for both clinical excellence and a supportive work environment that attracts top talent. We have been named among the nation’s top 50 cardiac hospitals by Truven Analytics and one of only 63 healthcare organizations across the country to achieve high-performing ratings in nine types of health conditions reviewed by U.S. News & World Report. The independent watchdog of the healthcare industry, the Leapfrog Group, gave our organization top marks in its Hospital Safety Score, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has recognized Eisenhower Medical Center as the only facility in the Coachella Valley to achieve a four-star rating in overall hospital quality.

A trailblazer in both technology and inclusive care, Eisenhower has made the U.S. Most Wired hospital list and has been honored by the Human Rights Campaign as a leader in LBGT Healthcare Equality for four consecutive years.

Equally important, Eisenhower Medical Center has been named a Workplace of the Year for the second year in a row. Bestowed by The Advisory Board Company, the award recognizes outstanding levels of employee engagement. Eisenhower also earned The Advisory Board Company’s 2017 Workplace Transformation Award, one of only five healthcare facilities across the country to have achieved the distinction for its employee engagement efforts.

PTs employed at our 542-bed acute care facility and outpatient and specialty clinics participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient care advances both within and beyond the Rehabilitation Department. They work closely with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other rehab professionals in environments that cultivate collaboration, research, and innovation. Recognizing the direct link between our employees’ success and our success as an organization, we foster a culture of performance excellence based on our strongly held values of integrity, respect, honesty, and professionalism.

We also value education and support the lifelong learning activities of PTs on our team. PTs at Eisenhower enjoy access to continuing education programming, and they participate in the education of the next generation of professionals within their specialty. Eisenhower hosts a dynamic PT intern program in collaboration with more than 50 academic programs throughout the country. PTs at Eisenhower can rely on our support of evidence-based practice, as well as our close attention to their professional development.

Our state-of-the-art facilities at our Rancho Mirage campus offer PTs the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology, equipment, and protocols that ensure the delivery of the highest-quality therapy services.

Play

The Eisenhower Medical Center system is known as an employer that “gets it” when it comes to work-life balance. We support the physical and emotional well being of our employees with free access to our leading-edge Renker Wellness Center (with reduced monthly fees for spouses and domestic partners), as well as a range of onsite wellness programs, from personalized weight training to aerobic fitness to nutritional counseling.

But active PTs who move to the Palm Springs area only need to look outside to see a vast off-the-job playground. The sun shines 360 days a year in the Coachella Valley, making the area ideal for nearly boundless outdoor activities. The surrounding mountains welcome hiking and biking; and, of course, there’s plenty of world-class, resort-style golf available. The serenity of the desert, on the other hand, invites get-away-from-it-all respite (not to mention a wealth of luxury and day spas for some much-deserved “me” time).

The area’s vibrant culture also offers a wide variety of opportunities for after-work rejuvenation. The Coachella Valley hosts several international festivals, including the celebrated Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the Stagecoach Festival, and the Palm Springs International Film Festival. Museums, galleries, and Broadway-level theater productions mix with an active restaurant, cafe, and club scene to create a cultural paradise.

Prosper

Eisenhower Medical Center offers PTs competitive compensation and a generous benefits package, including affordable medical, dental, and vision plans and a flexible healthcare spending account plan; a 403(b) retirement package; and tuition reimbursement.

As a member of the Eisenhower team, your hard work and clinical expertise will be appreciated and acknowledged. We host a number of employee recognition programs that reward performance excellence.
