The Cardiovasdcular Technologist assists the cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab and/or EP Lab.

Qualifications

Education

Required: Successful completion of an accredited Cardiovascular Technologist training program upon hire (i.e. RCIS, RCES, CVT program); if hired prior to June 2023, must successfully complete accredited CV Technologist training program within 2 years

Licensure/Certification

Required: RCIS, RCES or CVT certification upon hire; if hired prior to June 2023 must obtain within 2 years; American Heart Association BLS and ACLS; Completion of basic arrhythmia course or ECG certification

Experience

Required: Completion of clinical rotations in Cath/EP lab as part of RCIS/RCES/CVT training program

Preferred: Experience in acute care or healthcare setting

Essential Responsibilities
-
Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
-
Evaluates and attends to the patient’s physical and emotional needs before, during and after procedure to ensure proper patient care and positive examination experience. Maintains patient confidentiality.

Identifies patient utilizing two forms of verification following “time out” process.
-
Identifies appropriate procedure to be performed and prepares room and equipment accordingly. Operates equipment appropriately.

Performs in the scrub/circulating/monitoring roles in the lab.
-
Assists nurses and physicians in monitoring hemodynamics.
-
Operates monitoring equipment.
-
Maintains cleanliness of exam area and equipment.
-
Maintains sterile fields using aseptic technique.
-
Assists in the setup, preparation and cleanup of the procedure.
-
Works collaboratively with staff, physicians and other Eisenhower Medical Center employees.
-
Collaborates with the RN and observes interdisciplinary standards of practice in relation to double-checking the delivery of medications to the sterile field.
-
Properly disposes of all sharps and biohazardous waste.
-
Assists with stocking supplies and utilizes supplies efficiently.
-
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of procedures, techniques and equipment through in-services and conferences.

Contributes to the maximum efficiency of the lab by active participation in Cath Lab patient flow, room turnaround and procedure preparation.

Responsible for utilizing clinical and technical expertise to plan, implement and evaluate all aspects of invasive cardiovascular procedures.

Obtains, assesses & analyzes hemodynamic waveforms.
-
Prepares, maintains and operates IVUS, FFR, Impella, IABP devices.
-
Scrubs, circulates & monitors complex structural heart procedures (i.e. Watchman, TAVR, Mistraclip)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
