  • Qualifications
    • Education
      • Required:  Highschool, GED or Higher Level Degree

    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) after April, 2006, Phlebotomy Certification prior
      • Preferred: CA state phlebotomy license
    • Experience
      • Preferred: 1 year experience as CPT
  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Collects specimens by venipuncture, heelstick, or fingerstick by established protocol
    • Asks patient to state name and date of birth to confirm identification for outpatients, and utilizes wristband identification system for inpatients prior to collection of specimens.
    • Orders and processes laboratory requests in accordance with established procedures to assure timely collection and reporting priorities
    • Collects and processes all necessary paperwork, assuring appropriate billing and reporting by courier, fax, or laboratory printer
    • Utilizes time productively: maintains cleanliness (including disinfecting work area), reorders and restocks supplies, assists co-workers with tasks
    • Demonstrates proficiency on Laboratory equipment (Pneumatic Tube System, computers, centrifuge, fax, copier, printers)
    • Complies with hospital and Laboratory safety policies and procedures
    • Complies with all State and federal regulations
    • Demonstrates ability to process body fluids correctly.
    • Follows established procedures for contract registration.
    • Follows established procedure for medical necessity checking &/or Quick Registration.
    • Demonstrates ability to process remote collection specimens.
    • Answers telephone & responds to questions or directs calls to appropriate individual.
    • Pulls daily collection pending report.
    • Researches specimen problems w/ resolution and appropriate documentation.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
