Education:

Preferred: High school diploma or GED

Licensure/Certification:

Preferred: California Driver License with clean driving record

Experience:

Required: Two (2) years of commercial landscape maintenance or horticultural experience

Job Objective:

Responsible for maintaining and enhancing the hospital campus landscape to provide a safe, attractive, and healing environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and staff. Performs skilled horticultural and landscape maintenance duties, ensuring that all landscaped areas reflect the organization’s commitment to excellence while supporting a welcoming healthcare environment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
  • Maintains landscape beds, trees, shrubs, lawns, groundcovers and ornamental plantings throughout the hospital campus.
  • Plants, cultivates, prunes, fertilizes, mulch and replace annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees to promote healthy growth and year-round visual appeal.
  • Performs seasonal flower installations and landscape enhancements to create vibrant, inviting outdoor spaces.
  • Monitors plant health and identifies signs of disease, insect activity, irrigation deficiencies or environmental stress, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Weeds, edges, rakes and maintains planting beds to the highest horticultural standards.
  • Performs proper pruning techniques to ensure plant health, pedestrian safety and clear visibility around sidewalks, roadways, parking areas and building entrances.
  • Assists with irrigation inspections by identifying leaks, broken sprinkler heads and coverage issues and reports them for repair.
  • Operates commercial landscape equipment including mowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, pole saws and other landscape tools safely and efficiently.
  • Removes litter, fallen branches, leaves and debris to maintain a clean and welcoming campus.
  • Supports campus beautification projects, landscape renovations and installation of new plant materials.
  • Assists with storm cleanup and emergency response to ensure campus accessibility and safety.
  • Maintains equipment in clean, safe operating condition and report repair needs promptly.
  • Follows all hospital safety policies, infection prevention protocols and OSHA regulations while working in patient-care environments.
  • Participates in department meetings, trainings and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participates in commitment to safety, cleanliness and maintaining a healing landscape for all campus visitors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind and rain
  • Ability to identify common landscape pests, diseases and environmental issues
  • Knowledge of plant care, pruning, fertilization and seasonal landscape maintenance
