Licensure/Certification:
Required: California Driver License with clean driving record
Preferred: Irrigation certification and backflow certification
Experience:
Required: Two (2) years of experience in irrigation installation, maintenance and repair
Job Objective:
Responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of irrigation systems throughout the campus and clinics. Helps maintain healthy landscapes, conserves water resources and ensures that all irrigation systems function efficiently while supporting a safe, attractive, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
- Inspects, operates and maintains irrigation systems, including controllers, valves, heads, drip systems, pumps, and related components.
- Diagnoses and repairs leaks, broken lines, malfunctioning valves and irrigation heads.
- Programs and adjusts irrigation controllers based on seasonal conditions, weather patterns and water conservation requirements.
- Monitors water usage and implement practices that promote efficiency and sustainability.
- Performs routine inspections to ensure proper coverage and system performance.
- Maintains accurate records of repairs, inspections and irrigation schedules.
- Coordinates with landscape staff and supervisors to support campus grounds maintenance activities.
- Responds promptly to emergency irrigation repairs to prevent property damage and water waste.
- Ensures compliance with local water regulations, safety standards and hospital policies.
- Maintains tools, equipment and inventory required for irrigation repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Assists with planting, turf care and general landscape maintenance as needed.
- Identifies opportunities for improvements to irrigation systems and recommends upgrades to enhance efficiency.
- Responds to urgent repairs and works flexible hours as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Skils:
- Knowledge of irrigation controllers, valves, pumps, backflow devices and drip irrigation systems
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment
- Ability to read irrigation plans, maps and technical manuals
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines
- Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Familiarity with water conservation practices and landscape irrigation principles
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools and maintenance equipment
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and unexpected situations
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind and rain
- Ability to effectively communicate in a positive and professional manner
