  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
    • Under the direction of the Radiation Oncology Manager, Chief Physicist, in cooperation of the Medical Director, the Medical Dosimetrist develops optimal treatment plans for cancer patients that maximize the dose to the tumor while minimizing dose to the surrounding normal organs. This is to occur in accordance with physicians' prescription and calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed treatment. The Dosimetrist also contributes to the continuity and quality of care, in particular assuring excellent communication among all sections of the department (physicians, clinical staff, therapists, and front office).

  • Qualifications
    • Education
      • Required: Bachelor’s degree
    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: Certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) or certification eligible by MDCB and completion within one (1) year of hire

    • Experience
      • Preferred: Experience with Varian Eclipse and Aria equipment; experience with 3D – conformal, IMRT and VMAT treatment planning

  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Designs an effective treatment plan that will deliver a prescribed radiation dose and field placement technique in accordance with physicians' prescription.
    • Ensures dose-limiting structures are considered in the design of treatment plans and documents dose in accordance with physicians’ prescription.
    • Verifies patient prescription, diagnosis, and identification and accurately designs treatment plan with care. 
    • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient treatment plans and related documents.

    • Communicates with coworkers on any issues which relate directly to patient care.

    • Communicates with coworkers regarding treatment planning and implementing dosimetry plan changes, set-ups, etc.

    • Enters all dosimetry charges accurately and timely.

    • Manages time effectively and efficiently.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.
