  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
    • Provides direct patient care and support to multidisciplinary health team working within the scope of practice of a Nurse Practitioner (NP). The NP will serve as clinical area expert to include patient care, education, collaboration, and consultation activities. Assumes responsibility for professional development and program maintenance. Contributes to the department budget by cost effective use of time and supplies. Demonstrates commitment to system values through customer focus and continuous process improvement

  • Qualifications
    • Education
      • Required: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited school of nursing

    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required:

        • Active and unrestricted CA licensure as RN and NP
        • Nurse Practitioner Furnishing (NPF) license number from the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN)
        • Current board certification or board eligible as and NP by a nationally accredited organization in a population foci (ACGNP, FNP)
        • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate to dispense controlled substances (II-V)
        • National Provider Identifier (NPI)
        • Current Basic Life Support certification (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA)
        • Controlled Substances Utilization Review and Evaluation System (CURES) registration under California Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP)
    • Experience
      • Preferred: Experience as a nurse practitioner providing care in the acute or ambulatory setting in one of the following areas:

        • General Surgery
        • Palliative Care
  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Uses the medical model to manage patient care.
    • Assesses the health status of patients by obtaining an appropriate patient history, performing an appropriate physical examination based on age and history, and performing or ordering appropriate diagnostic tests.
    • Makes accurate diagnoses by using critical thinking in the diagnostic process, synthesizing and analyzing the collected data, and formulating a differential diagnosis.
    • Develops an effective treatment plan to maximize health benefits to the patient by selecting appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, developing a patient education plan and providing patient teaching, and using appropriate consultation or referral to other health care providers.
    • Evaluates patient status on follow up and modifies the treatment plan based on reassessment when expected outcomes are not met.
    • Provides all services within the provider’s scope of service and the Nursing Practice Act, and appropriately consults with clinic physicians.
    • Documents all patient care provided pursuant to hospital and clinic policies.
    • Participates in hospital and clinic quality improvement and quality assurance activities as requested or required. Participates in provider and support-staff meetings as required.
    • Demonstrates efficient use of hospital and clinic resources to meet budget goals.
    • Must meet Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Focus Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) criteria per Medical Staff Bylaws. The Nurse Practioner (NP) must abide by the NP Standardized Procedures as applicable to the licensure, in theory and practice, including all policies and protocols that pertain to the NP’s practice at Eisenhower Health.
