Job Objective:

Scrubs in with the physician and assists with procedures as a part of a team that performs peripheral diagnostic and interventional procedures; including but not limited to preparing the supply tray, passing guide wires and catheters and operating the table and fluoroscopic equipment. The team works together to position the patient, prep and drape the patient for the procedure.

Education:

Required: Graduate of a Radiologic Technology Training Program approved by the American Medical Association or equivalent training

Licensure/Certification:

Required: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification; California Radiologic Technologist (CRT) license with fluoroscopy permit; must obtain fluoroscopy permit within twelve (12) months of hire if graduated before January 1, 2011 from Diagnostic Radiology Technology program with CRT license; American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Required: AHA ACLS 7570 Cardiac Cath Lab 7571 Electro Physiology Lab

Experience:

Required: Two (2) years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist and one (1) year of scrub experience

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
  • Obtains appropriate medical history before patient examination and prepares patient for exam.
  • Assists physician with the appropriate diagnostic procedures as ordered.
  • Scrubs to assist physician with passage of catheters/ guide wires.
  • Performs angiographic and interventional procedures with physician.
  • Appropriately preps and drapes patients and sets up procedure tables.
  • Provides appropriate tray set-ups and perform surgical scrub procedures utilizing a thorough knowledge of sterile technique.
  • Collaborates and plans with physician and technologists for the selection of procedural protocols.
  • Maintains cleanliness of all radiology equipment and procedure rooms through sterilization techniques and universal protocols while maintaining adequate stock of supplies.
  • Uses PACS according to hospital protocol.
  • Performs radiographic procedures of high technical quality.
  • Utilizes proper radiation protection to protect patient from excessive radiation.
  • Maintains equipment; reporting all deficiencies to immediate supervisor.
  • Stocks room appropriately for exams and at the end of shift.
  • Loads power injectors with contrast media; prepares for injection; positions patient; immobilizes as necessary.
  • Operates fluoroscopic equipment; positions patients for rapid sequence filming during contrast media administration.
  • Prepares supplies for procedures; sets up and maintains sterile trays and other equipment, practicing sterile techniques. Passes instruments and supplies to the physician.
  • Assists in orientation of new technologists; provide education and training to new technologists.
  • Monitors assigned inventory expirations dates.
  • Maintains an inventory of catheters, balloons, stents, guide wires and miscellaneous kits under discretion of department leadership and order supplies.
  • Maintains an orderly instrument table and cleanliness of equipment and rooms and maintains adequate supplies.
  • Anticipates physicians needs by review of preference cards and procuring appropriate supplies.
  • Uses judgment when opening and using supplies to be cost effective.
  • Operates the x-ray equipment when assigned to Radiology Tech duties.
  • Participates in “on call” rotation.

  • Ability to create and maintain positive interpersonal relations with peers, staff, leaders and vendors
  • Ability to produce radiographs and practice radiation safety procedures
  • Knowledge of diagnostic and interventional procedures in assigned area
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
  • Ability to communicate with patients, healthcare professionals, and staff to ensure clear and accurate exchange of information
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Ability to operate radiologic equipment
  • Extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, sterile technique and universal precautions
