  • Qualifications
    • Education
      • Required: MSW
    • Licensure/Certification
      • Preferred: CA. LCSW
    • Experience
      • Preferred: Two (2) years of Oncology Social Work experience

  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Meets with patients and their loved ones for psychosocial needs assessment and examines social support, appropriate community resources and coping mechanisms.
    • Provides crisis intervention/short-term counseling to patients and families in periods of acute distress.
    • Provides supportive counseling from the period of initial impact through the progress of the illness to minimize patient/family stress.
    • Provides support to clinic patients and their loved ones during hospitalizations.
    • Counsels with patients/loved ones regarding end-of-life issues.
    • Is a member of the interdisciplinary medical team to identify and refer patients/families to appropriate community resources.
    • Facilitates team support of identified patients and family needs through on-going communication with clinic team members.
    • Acts as a patient/family advocate in negotiating the health care system.
    • Tracks and provides measurable data for analysis of specific key performance indicators for social work activity.
    • Assists with evaluation of programs and participates in quality improvement activities.
    • Reinforces patient teaching to ensure patient/family understanding.
    • Maintains knowledge of insurance reimbursement issues.
    • Provides education to patients and clinic staff regarding skills and knowledge specific to the role of an oncology social worker.
    • Assists in program development and implementation for support services programs (cancer lecture series, teleconferences, support groups, etc).
    • Serves as a proactive, problem solving team member working collaboratively with all members of the cancer team.
    • Attends staff meetings as directed.
    • Maintains excellent working relationship with inpatient cancer team, community cancer organizations, and represents the cancer center in a positive way to all with who they interact.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
