Education:
Required: Bachelor’s degree if hired after March 1, 2025
Licensure/Certification:
Required: California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license
Preferred: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Certification or equivalent
Experience:
Required: Four (4) years of experience as a CLS or Medical Technologist
Job Objective:
Oversees and directs all department activities appropriate to sections. Assists in hiring, discipline and evaluation of section staff; maintains operating cost and staffing levels within confines of organizational budget. Performs all duties of section staff.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
- Supervises, evaluates, counsels, and oversees training of section personnel.
- Oversees departmental workflow and directs resources for optimal turnaround times utilizing HLAB LIS tools (Order Monitor, Result Monitor).
- Develops, revises and maintains policies and procedures to meet CAP, JCAHO, and other agency requirements.
- Performs and oversees evaluation and maintenance of new and existing instrumentation/procedures.
- Schedules section staff appropriately to achieve desired productivity standards in compliance with overtime and meal period goals.
- Manages departmental expenses through efficient staffing and prudent purchasing to achieve organizational goals.
- Supervises analytical performance and quality in all areas of oversight.
- Complies with hospital and Laboratory safety policies and procedures.
- Complies with all State, Federal, TJC and CAP regulations.
- Performs all duties of section staff.
- Develops and monitors quality control related to reporting departments.
- Develops QI monitors and puts measure in place to achieve goals.
- Supervises and collaborates with lead CLS to meet ensure productivity and quality standards.
- Reviews, monitors and approves time cards; coaches/counsels staff for violations as needed.
