From the time we’re kids in elementary school we learn that magnets attract. So it goes with Magnet®-recognized hospitals like Eisenhower Health, whose commitment to excellence has convinced some of the nation’s best nursing talent to come to the Coachella Valley and rocket their careers.

Along with jaw-dropping gorgeous surroundings, super-competitive pay, amazing benefits, a commitment to diversity plus an on-fire social and nightlife, Eisenhower Health’s Magnet status is one of the best reasons why you should consider doing the same.

Eisenhower Health Magnet Recognized Hospital

So many hospitals, so few Magnets

If you’re in the field, you most likely know that Magnet recognition is the most prestigious distinction a healthcare organization can earn for nursing excellence and outstanding patient care. Eisenhower Health received ours back in March of 2015—an honor shared by only seven percent of the nearly 6,000 hospitals in the nation.

But what you may not know is how grueling and intense a Magnet Recognition Program® evaluation is—not unlike a 12-hour Friday night nursing shift. (Well, maybe almost that grueling.) Once you understand the process you’ll see why we, and our entire nursing staff, are so proud to be a part of this great organization.

Eisenhower Health is Coachella Valley’s only hospital to receive Magnet® recognition.

Like us, you’ll love working for the first hospital in Riverside and San Bernardino counties to be Magnet-recognized, and the only one to achieve it in the entire Coachella Valley.

Spend ten minutes at one of our nursing stations, and you’ll feel the energy: a self-satisfaction about being part of an elite team of medical professionals. In other words, compared to so many other hospitals, most Eisenhower Health nurses usually can’t wait to go to work.

Full confession:
Getting here was no cake walk

First, we had to demonstrate all of the following to the program’s governing body, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC): nursing excellence; major quality assurance and nursing research initiatives; a high level of patient satisfaction; transformational nursing leadership; along with a solid nursing professional development program. And not just on paper. ANCC appraisers conducted many onsite evaluations, along with interviews with hospital staff, physicians and patients.

A Gallup survey found that nurses in Magnet hospitals have higher job satisfaction rates.¹

Eisenhower Health passed with flying colors.  But, like all Magnet hospitals, we can’t and won’t let excellence slip: we must reapply for the designation every four years and provide updates annually.

The takeaway?  Magnet status isn’t just for window dressing. Our nurses don’t mind flaunting our achievement, and we’re always on our game.

Bottom line:
It’s all about the patient

If you’re a nurse, there’s a tremendous amount of prestige and, let’s face it, bragging rights about working for a Magnet hospital. But most nurses here at Eisenhower Health take just as much pride in knowing that Magnet hospitals outshine others when it comes to the most important measure of success—how we impact patients’ lives.

Studies show that Magnet hospital nurses are more engaged with their work, which correlates with better outcomes.²

In fact, Magnet hospitals like Eisenhower Health have:

  • Better patient outcomes
  • Lower mortality rates
  • Increased patient satisfaction
  • Shorter lengths of stay

Nurse Like A Boss

More than just a set of rules imposed from above, Magnet recognition means that a “Magnet culture” has been created within our organization. How does that play out? For starters, our nurses are encouraged to carve out their own personal path of excellence, become leaders and blossom as professionals.

Based on a foundation of trust, we set the parameters of our own work environment. Instead of automatically deferring, we’re encouraged to leverage our experience and talents through empowered bedside decision-making with full cooperation from physicians, PAs and other specialists. Refreshing, right?

Eisenhower Health offers a highly acclaimed professional development track that includes a Tuition Reimbursement Program.

We also nurture collaborative working relationships between, say, nursing staff and doctors or surgeons, or various other departments. We don’t play politics here.  When it comes to making a difference in patients’ lives we’re all on the same team.

Then there’s the subject of safety. Nurses work in close proximity to blood and body fluids every day. As it turns out, the average Magnet hospital has 7.1% fewer safety-related incidents, fewer RN workplace injuries, plus lower rates of blood and body fluid exposure. At Eisenhower Health, that’s one less thing you’ll have to worry about.

Since its inception in 1993, Magnet Recognition® has been a beacon to attract nursing’s best talent to the nation’s finest hospitals.

Finally, Magnet hospitals must also prove they offer a solid path for career advancement.  Eisenhower Health checked that box, too. From the day you start here, you’re actually just beginning to explore your career possibilities.  We offer a broad professional development track that even includes a Tuition Reimbursement Program.

Come here to propel your career

In more ways than one, Eisenhower Health keeps earning its reputation as a five-star career experience—with exceptional vocational opportunities, breathtaking surroundings, a diverse, inclusive workforce, and leisure options that are off the hook.

Add to those attractions our status as a Magnet hospital, and you can’t help but be pulled in.
