How Communities Are Thanking Health Care Workers During COVID-19

Social distancing may be keeping us from spending time with each other but the pandemic is not stopping humanity from showing kindness and gratefulness to those on the frontlines. Families and communities are joining together to show their gratitude in BIG and clever ways.

While our frontline workers are sacrificing more than most right now, so many people in our community have found ways to show their support. We’ve rounded up a few to remind the world that during this crisis, there is joy to be found in communities coming together.

Hospital Workers Greeted with Cheering in Metro Communities During Shift Change

In large populated cities, like New York and Chicago, communities have banded together to show their support during the hours of 6-7pm – the most common shift change for healthcare workers. The cities participate by hanging out their windows, going out on their balconies and fire escapes, and stepping on their front porch to cheer, clap, flick on and off their lights, and chant for all essential workers.

DIY Bloggers Across the Internet Put Their Skills to Work By Challenging Each Other to Build Big, Beautiful Thank You Signs

DIYers joined together to proudly display their homemade thank you messages in front yards, windows and porches to be seen all frontline workers traveling to and from work.

Small But Mighty Acts of Kindness from Family Members of Covid-19 Victims

Members of the community who have had to leave their family members’ side as they fight Covid-19 in the hospital, are still finding ways to show their thankfulness. A grateful husband holds a sign outside of the emergency room so the entire staff can see it while another man makes a sign and stands across the street from the hospital that saved his mother.

Restaurants Say Thank You by Fueling Up the Frontlines with Hot Meals

For many on the frontlines, working long hours and extra shifts have been common. Many are skipping meals because they are too busy to get out of their protective gear to wash up. To keep these workers eating, many restaurants have been using the slow down in business to make and deliver hot meals to hospital staff.

 

In our own community, Norma’s Italian Kitchen was delivered to 60 healthcare workers at Eisenhower Health!
