  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
    • The Endoscopy Technician, working under the direct supervision of the Endoscopy Nurse and Endoscopy Coordinator, performs the duties of a procedural assistant. Prepares supplies for the case and sets up and maintains the procedure table and endoscopy cart. Assists physicians with all endoscopic procedures and is responsible for the care, cleaning and maintenance of the endoscopy equipment. Possesses basic computer skills and assists with ordering and maintaining of appropriate inventory. Able to take call.

  • Qualifications
    • Education
      • High School Diploma or equivalent
      • Preferred: Completion of Advanced Endoscopic Ultrasound Training.
    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: American Heart Association BLS
    • Experience
      • Required: 1 year experience in Acute Hospital Setting
      • Preferred: Endoscopy Technician experience.
  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Demonstrates and maintains aseptic technique according to the policies and procedures of Surgical Services.
    • Demonstrates competency and knowledge of the endoscopy environment regarding traffic patterns and contamination of the procedure table.
    • Anticipates surgeons needs by review of preference card and procuring appropriate supplies prior to start of case.
    • Maintains orderly procedure table and endoscopy cart.
    • Remains attentive to the progression of the procedure in order to anticipate physician’s needs.
    • Properly disposes of all sharps and biohazardous waste.
    • Accurately identifies surgical specimen and transfers to the endoscopy nurse.
    • Prepares endoscopic instruments for cleaning and resterilization.
    • Maintains Steris equipment to include diagnostic run, chemical and biological monitoring; maintains records as required.
    • Assists with putting away supplies and room turnover.
    • Contributes to maximum efficiency of the endoscopy schedule in order to adhere to endoscopy start times.
    • Demonstrates cost effectiveness by using judgment when opening and using supplies.
    • Keeps current with new endoscopic techniques and equipment through participation in unit based and continuing education.
    • Enters patient information into computer database.
    • Takes call as required by department.
    • Accepts responsibilities only within scope of practice.
