  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
      • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and evaluating the nursing research and evidence-based practice (EBP). Acts as a change agent and fosters a culture of inquiry to bridge the gap between research and practice by engaging nurses in research and EBP. Work is integrally involved and aligned with the goals of maintaining Magnet® designation and the organization and nursing strategic plans. Works collaboratively with nurses and other health care providers to advance new knowledge, innovation and improvement with a spirit of inquiry that aligns with the mission, vision and values of Eisenhower Health and ANCC Magnet priorities

  • Qualifications
    • Education
        • Required: PhD in Nursing, or DNS or DNP or MSN in Nursing and attainment of PhD or other stated doctorate degree within 18 months

    • Licensure/Certification
        • Required:  California RN License; Certification in Leadership, Nursing Professional Development or Research

    • Experience
        • Required: Five years’ experience in nursing research and/or evidenced-based practice (EBP) role with a proven record in research/EBP and dissemination of findings

  • Essential Responsibilities
      • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
      • Maintains expertise in research methods, proposal development, data analysis, and dissemination of findings.
      • Collaborates with the Senior Director of Professional Development to develop innovative programs to educate, mentor and enhance knowledge of nurses (including Nursing Grand Rounds, journal clubs, mentoring PTAP participants etc.) in EBP and research.
      • Develops and maintains database of nursing clinical research/evidence-based and quality improvement projects.
      • Participates in and supports ANCC Magnet standards collaborating with organization stakeholders and shared governance councils to promote integrated system-wide initiatives grounded in new knowledge, innovation and quality improvements.
      • Assists and maintains the communication of relevant information to the ANCC Magnet Program.
      • Assumes responsibility for coordinating nursing and interprofessional research, using evidence-based practice methodologies to improve patient care and nursing practice.
        • Analyzes and utilizes data to identify practice issues and synthesize evidence to determine project priorities;
        • Critically review study protocols for scientific merit and feasibility and suggest improvements when appropriate;
        • Participates in all aspects of development, implementation and publication of nursing research protocols;
        • Facilitates team projects by forming diverse high performing interprofessional research or project teams;
        • Promotes and participates in collaborative inter-professional research;
        • Coordinate efforts with other healthcare disciplines and departments to support improvement work and inquiry-based activities, including EBP projects and research studies, to advance professional nursing, clinical nursing practice, and processes;
        • Provides consultation, mentoring, education, and guidance for nurse-led EBP projects and research studies;
        • Establishes and oversees individual project goals, milestones, and priorities ensuring team members understand work assignments;
        • Communicates project status, risks and issues to project stakeholders regularly;
        • Participates in the quarterly and annual evaluation and strategic plan including outcomes achieved the prior year (includes impact on practice, publication productivity, national presentations, grants obtained, etc.)
      • Applies for grants and awards that support ongoing nursing research.
      • Actively participates and/or leads committees, taskforces and/or workgroups.
      • Acts as a nursing research liaison to the IRB coordinator. Actively participates on the Institutional Review Board and other committees as appointed.
      • Actively participates in professional and community activities.
      • Understand and teach/advise on the improvement of nursing-sensitive quality indicators, nurse sensitive patient satisfaction questions and participation in quality improvement initiatives and councils.
      • Promotes the development and testing of more efficient educational processes, identifies new ways to incorporate technology to enhance learning and discovers more effective approaches to promote lifelong learning.
      • Evaluates program outcomes and role models professional nursing practice behaviors measured through improved patient outcomes, increased efficiency, decreased cost, and enhanced visibility of research and evidence-based practice across the organization, locally, regionally, and nationally
      • Identify sources for, advocates, assists and teaches/supports dissemination of studies, including the development of abstracts, posters, podium presentations, and manuscripts.
      • Organizes and conducts workshops, conferences, symposia and other similar activities to promote EBP and/or research.
      • Develops and maintains professional networks within the organization and at the local, regional and national level to promote professional and programmatic growth.
      • Participates in professional activities for development (e.g., seminars, CEUs, professional organization meetings); annually reviews quality and cost effectiveness of these programs.
      • Seeks opportunities to teach, coach and mentor and to learn, be coached and mentored.
      • Role models personal and professional growth through continuing education and certification.
      • Other duties as assigned.
