Throughout the year, we honor and appreciate our entire health care team, but during LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, we want to show even more appreciation and gratitude towards our LGBTQIA+ Pride team members.
Pride Month, or LGBTQIA+ History Month, is a time to celebrate and recognize the contributions, diversity, and experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual individuals within the health care profession. It is typically observed during the month of June, commemorating the Stonewall riots that occurred in June 1969, which marked a significant turning point in LGBTQIA+ rights.
During LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, the focus is on raising awareness about the unique challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ health care professionals and patients, promoting inclusivity, and fostering an environment of acceptance and respect within health care settings. It is an opportunity to acknowledge and honor the accomplishments and dedication of our LGBTQIA+ staff who play a vital role in providing compassionate and equitable care to all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
This month also serves as a platform to advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights and address health care disparities that disproportionately affect the LGBTQIA+ community. It encourages discussions and educational activities that promote cultural competency, sensitivity, and understanding among health care professionals to ensure equitable care for LGBTQIA+ patients.
LGBTQIA+ Pride Month is a time to celebrate diversity, create a supportive community, and work towards a future where all team members and patients can be their authentic selves without fear of discrimination or prejudice.

LGBTQIA+ Healthcare Equality ‘Top Performer’ accolade
Eisenhower Health has received an evaluation of 95 out of 100 and the designation of “LGBTQIA+ Healthcare Equality Top Performer” in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 15th anniversary edition of the Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey of health care facilities on policies and practices dedicated to the equitable treatment and inclusion of their LGBTQIA+ patients, visitors and employees.
The HEI evaluates and scores health care facilities on detailed criteria falling under four central pillars:
- Foundational Policies and Training in LGBTQIA+ Patient-Centered Care
- LGBTQIA+ Patient Services and Support
- Employee Benefits and Policies
- Patient and Community Engagement
