  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
    • Responsible for managing Eisenhower’s litigation and insurance portfolios. Reports to the Chief Risk Officer/Legal Counsel but also works with the General Counsel, Associate General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel. Independently oversees and coordinates the litigation discovery process for medical malpractice, labor/employment, class action and general business cases.  Maintain all aspects of these cases from discovery and motion schedules to creating and updating electronic files. Serves as the liaison between outside counsel and Eisenhower leaders. Supports the procurement and renewal of all Eisenhower insurance programs including all excess layers of insurance. Oversees related programs such as processing certificates of insurance and administering the driver’s program.

  • Qualifications
    • Education
      • o    Required: Bachelor’s Degree 

    • Licensure/Certification
      • o    Preferred: Paralegal Certification from an ABA accredited program 

    • Experience
      • o    Required: Five (5) years of experience supporting attorneys in litigation matters either in a law firm or in-house setting
        o    Preferred: Corporate in-house law department or law firm experience, insurance defense or coverage experience

  • Essential Responsibilities
    • 1.    Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
      2.    Creates and maintains all files for claims and litigation cases including medical malpractice, labor and employment, class action and general corporate cases.
    • 3.    Manages and processes all invoices for law firm and litigation consulting firm services including conducting initial invoice reviews and routing invoices to responsible in-house attorneys for approval.
      4.    Serves as the liaison between Eisenhower Medical Center, Eisenhower Medical Associates, the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center and the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences and law firm attorneys and paralegals.
      5.    Collects and provides information that law firms representing the Eisenhower client request.
      6.    Responds to all law firm requests for assistance with discovery including but not limited to completing draft interrogatory responses, collecting documents and electronic information responsive to requests to produce, and coordinating responses to requests to admit. Sign necessary declarations.
      7.    Coordinates, and at the direction of the Chief Risk Officer/Legal Counsel, attends witness interviews and depositions; coordination includes scheduling on-campus conference rooms, confirming witness availability and serving as the liaison between the Eisenhower witness and the law firm representing the Eisenhower client. Meets and escorts attorneys and witnesses to meeting rooms, sets up and manages technology like Zoom and conference calling features for these meetings.
      8.    Coordinates, and at the direction of the Chief Risk Officer/Legal Counsel, attends settlement conferences, mediations, arbitrations, bench trials and jury trials; coordination may include assisting the law firm representing the Eisenhower client to schedule dispute resolution meetings, serving as the client representative, and reporting information back to the Chief Risk Officer/Legal Counsel (from summary information to an evaluation of law firm attorney performance).
      9.    Monitors case calendars and deadlines for all pending litigation and work with in-house as well as law firm attorneys to ensure compliance with those deadlines.
      10.    Conducts legal research as assigned by an in-house attorney.
      11.    Communicates with law firm attorneys, paralegals and support staff to agree upon and comply with schedules and deadlines.
      12.    Manages subpoenas for records, witness depositions and attendance at trial.
      13.    At the request of the Chief Risk Officer/Legal Counsel, reviews and outlines deposition transcripts.
      14.    At the direction of the Chief Risk Officer/Legal Counsel, completes reviews of case facts from conducting and summarizing internal interviews of client employees and contractors to collecting, organizing and summarizing electronic information and paper documents.
      15.    Complies with confidentiality requirements and exercise discretion and independent judgment in job performance.
      16.    Responds to credentialing requests from internal and external stakeholders by providing requested documents.
