Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.

The Fitness Instructor on a one to one basis or in a group setting oversees bariatric exercise group. The Fitness instructor works under the direction of the Bariatric Program Coordinator and staff as part of the total therapeutic team providing one to one direction and guidance in the proper techniques of exercise. The Fitness Instructor develops, implements and evaluates group exercise classes for bariatric patients. Fitness Instructors provide education and motivation in building and maintaining a successful exercise program for both bariatric patients

Qualifications

Education

Required: Personal and or fitness Trainer Certification from one of the below accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)

International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) or

National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) or

American Council on Exercise (ACE) or
-
American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)

Licensure/Certification

Required: American Heart Association BLS

Essential Responsibilities
-
Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
-
Participates in development and implementation of exercise program appropriate bariatric patients with the Bariatric coordinator and physician(s).

Provides education related to exercise and its benefits and acts as a resource.
-
Assures that the patient care area is prepared with specific and appropriate supplies and equipment per the individual patient needs and planned exercise program.

Evaluates new exercise and equipment to enhance Bariatric exercise program.
-
Maintains facility area for exercise location and supplies.
-
Operates all equipment safely and correctly.
-
Stays current with new exercises, techniques/developments and equipment through continuing education conferences/seminars, professional societies/journals.

Provides assistance at bariatric meetings for patients, employees, and visitors.
-
Performs new member orientation for Bariatric fitness patients.
-
Communicates planned exercise for the day to the patient.
-
Educates and Informs patient of reasons for change in exercise program.
-
Documentation meets all standards and policies of EMC.
-
Works with Bariatric coordinator and/or designee to support Bariatric program needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
