  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
    • The Patient Care Technician (PCT) has primary responsibility for basic nursing skills, including vital signs, shave preps, intake and outputs, and patient safety. The PCT performs support functions for the unit, including basic clerical functions, order entry, supply ordering and maintenance of a tidy patient care and desk area

      • Preferred: Previous acute care experience

  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Accurately obtains vital signs (TPR, BP and pain level), height, weight, pulse oximeter, documents and communicates abnormals and changes to RN.
    • Performs shave preps as appropriate.
    • Appropriately positions and ambulates patients per care plan.
    • Accurately records intake and output.
    • Assists with set up and/or feedings of patients when appropriate.
    • Applies antiembolytic stockings and sequential compression devices per physician orders.
    • Provides safe patient environment at all times.
      • Stays with patient who may be in danger of falling or hurting himself

      • Correctly identifies patient by use of armband

      • Call bell within reach and secured to gurney

    • Communicates observations of patient condition changes to RN.
    • Communicates with RN/co-workers prior to breaks and lunches to ensure continuity of care.
    • Maintains general tidiness of patient care area and unit.
    • Administers enemas per physician order.
    • Maintains supply par levels in department.
    • Performs basic clerical duties.
    • Performs basic order entry, data entry and retrieval, and patient charges.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
