The Patient Care Technician (PCT) has primary responsibility to assist the RN with patient care, taking vital signs, transporting patients to/from department and patient safety. The PCT performs support functions for the unit, including basic clerical functions, assists with scheduling, supply ordering and maintenance of a tidy patient care department

Essential Responsibilities
-
Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
-
Demonstrates knowledge of hospital approved patient identifications procedures.
-
Communicates pertinent information and unfinished tasks to RN/co-workers prior to breaks, lunches and end of shift to ensure continuity of patient care and workflow.

Provides safe patient environment at all times:
-
Stays with patient, who may be in danger of falling and hurting themselves
-
Correctly identifies patient by use of armband.
-
Call bell within reach and secured to gurney
-

Transports patients in a safe, efficient and comfortable manner to and from Department / Floors when necessary, reporting any changes that may occur during transport. (SBAR)

Assists in cleaning dialysis stations and machines in accordance with hospital policies.
-
Assists Nursing staff with patient care, such as repositioning and cleaning of incontinent patients and with moving patients, when necessary.

Responds and assists to Code Blue.

Notifies patients RN prior to transport and upon return.
-
Notifies Nurse if patient needs taken off or put on monitor.
-
Operates patient support equipment, such as: oxygen tanks, Hovermats, and ergo-slide.

Maintains and sanitizes gurneys.
-
Assists in transporting specimens to the lab department as needed.
-
Demonstrates good body mechanics moving, lifting and transporting patients.
-
Appropriately positions and ambulates patients per care plan.
-
Communicates observations of patient condition changes to RN.
-
Maintains general tidiness of patient care area and unit.
-
Performs clerical duties, as directed, in the department (filing, answering phones, scheduling of patients basic order entry, data entry and retrieval, and patient charges).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
