  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
    • The Patient Care Technician (PCT) has primary responsibility to assist the RN with patient care, taking vital signs, transporting patients to/from department and patient safety. The PCT performs support functions for the unit, including basic clerical functions, assists with scheduling, supply ordering and maintenance of a tidy patient care department

    • Education
      • N/A

    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: American Heart Association BLS

    • Experience
      • Preferred: Hospital and/or patient care experience 

  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of hospital approved patient identifications procedures.
    • Communicates pertinent information and unfinished tasks to RN/co-workers prior to breaks, lunches and end of shift to ensure continuity of patient care and workflow.
    • Provides safe patient environment at all times:
      • Stays with patient, who may be in danger of falling and hurting themselves
      • Correctly identifies patient by use of armband.
      • Call bell within reach and secured to gurney

    • Transports patients in a safe, efficient and comfortable manner to and from Department / Floors when necessary, reporting any changes that may occur during transport. (SBAR)
    • Assists in cleaning dialysis stations and machines in accordance with hospital policies.
    • Assists Nursing staff with patient care, such as repositioning and cleaning of incontinent patients and with moving patients, when necessary.
    • Responds and assists to Code Blue.
    • Notifies patients RN prior to transport and upon return.
    • Notifies Nurse if patient needs taken off or put on monitor.
    • Operates patient support equipment, such as: oxygen tanks, Hovermats, and ergo-slide.
    • Maintains and sanitizes gurneys. 
    • Assists in transporting specimens to the lab department as needed.
    • Demonstrates good body mechanics moving, lifting and transporting patients.
    • Appropriately positions and ambulates patients per care plan.
    • Communicates observations of patient condition changes to RN.
    • Maintains general tidiness of patient care area and unit.
    • Performs clerical duties, as directed, in the department (filing, answering phones, scheduling of patients basic order entry, data entry and retrieval, and patient charges).
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
